About Numburindi Festival
The Numburindi Festival is part of the Remote Events Program through Artback NT.
The remote Arnhem Land community of Numbulwar on the western coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria has been involved with Artback NT’s Indigenous Traditional Dance program since 2016 with the delivery of the inaugural Numburindi Festival.
The Numburindi Festival is a unique community-driven event that highlights the diversity of language, dance and song from clan groups living in Numbulwar, the Ngalmi, Nundhirribala, Murrungun, Nunggarragalu and Mangurra Peoples’. Festival activity is particularly focused on inter-generational exchange and mentorship, with one performance evening dedicated to Numbulwar’s young people.

Numburindi Festival Artistic Director Grant Nundhirribala ensures programming resonates with the community and directly supports the continuity of Numbulwar’s cultural practices.
