Roper Gulf Regional Council is hosting a community NAIDOC event on Saturday 15 July 2023. The event will be held at the Barunga Oval and will include markets, cultural displays, activities and the local Big Rivers Region AFL competition.
About NAIDOC Round
NAIDOC Week occurs annually in July and celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. 75% of people in the Roper Gulf region identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, so NAIDOC Week is very important to our people and to our Council.
To mark this, each year Roper Gulf Regional Council hold a NAIDOC celebration in one of its remote Aboriginal communities and the Big Rivers Football League AFL competition is played at the community oval.
This year NAIDOC Round will be held in Barunga on Saturday 15 July 2023 from 10:00am.
The event will include food stalls, bush tucker, markets, face painting, cultural displays and the Big Rivers AFL NAIDOC Round. This is an opportunity to showcase the unique offerings of our region and celebrate NAIDOC 2023 and the theme 'For Our Elders' with a special presentation this year from Bagala Traditional Owners and local community members.
Entry is free for spectators and visitors are welcome to attend.
Team fees are paid to the Arnhem Crows Football Club.
This is an alcohol free event.
