Barunga Festival is an authentic annual experience held in one of Roper Gulf Regional Councils beautiful communities just 80 kilometers south-east from Katherine on the Central Arnhem Highway.
The 2023 Barunga festival was filled with music, culture and sport with thousands of people from across the country coming to visit.
A highlight for Council was watching the local camp dogs compete in the ‘Deadliest Camp Dog Challenge’ hosted by our very own Animal Control Coordinator Kaye. Well done to Tyler, the dog who took out the competition!
Council was also honored to be a part of the scoreboard and two coach’s boxes naming unveiling which the Barunga Local Authority was responsible for creating and funding, honoring three past players who had a huge impact on football within the community, Anthony Lee, Owen Sheilds & Gavin Harrison.
Thank you to everyone who came to visit the Roper Gulf Regional Council market stall and those who contributed to the ‘Barunga Statement Memorial Survey’, we can’t wait to share the information we collected which will help shape and design this special monument.
A big thank you to the Bagala Aboriginal Corporation and all other local stakeholders for making this event possible!
