Roper Gulf Regional Council is proud to be able to make a donation to assist bushfire recovery on the Australian mainland.
The motion to host a fundraising event was supported by all staff at the Council’s Support Centre in Katherine, with one hundred percent of funds as donations made given to the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery fund.
Roper Gulf Mayor, Judy MacFarlane stated “The devastation has touched all Australians and our thoughts are with the families and communities of those affected by the fires and the ongoing recovery efforts occurring around the country.”
“It is important at times like these we come together as a nation, whether we have been directly affected or not to support our brothers and sisters across the country.”
Roper Gulf Council cooked up and served breakfast for residents in Katherine with all supplies donated from Katherine Woolworths, Town and Country Butchers, Katherine Fresh Fruit & Vegetables, Brumby's Katherine and Jones Meat Mart.
Staff were extremely touched by the large donations made by residents of Katherine and surrounding Communities who drove in to join in the fundraising efforts.
Mayor MacFarlane encourages everyone to keep donating where they can and help those who have lost everything.
“Thank you again to everyone for making the event so successful and helping raise funds for those in need.”
The Red Cross will continue contributing donations to on-the-ground disaster services, immediate assistance grants and mid-to-long-term recovery.
