Roper Gulf Regional Council has begun a series of community consultations aimed at informing the development of a 15 year Sport and Recreation Facility Master Plan. The resulting Roper Gulf Regional Council Sport and Recreation Facility Master Plan will provide a strategic overview and individual community plans which will ensure Council’s facilities will be well utilised, meet community needs and still be affordable and sustainable.
Roper Gulf Regional Council’s Director of Contracts and Technical Services Marc Gardner is excited by the consultations currently underway.
“These consultations give local residents and organisations a real say in planning for future sport and recreation programs and facilities in their communities.
Lots of residents and organisations have already had their say and what they are telling us is really valuable in the future development of Sport and Recreation in our communities.
Local knowledge and a sense of ownership are very important in our planning process and I have been impressed with commitment that people have shown. Sport and Recreation is such an important service here in Roper Gulf and with this strategic planning process it will remain sustainable and vibrant. It will also enable Council and communities to improve facilities and programs in line with their needs.”
Mr Gardner also added,
“We are one of the first Councils to undertake this level of Sports and Recreation planning in the Northern Territory and it reflects Council’s commitment to strong strategic planning and community engagement.”
The Sport and Recreation Facility Master Plan will be ready for Council in early 2016 and is jointly funded by Roper Gulf Regional Council and the Northern Territory Government.
