The Roper Gulf Regional Council Chambers was officially opened today, by Her Honour, the Honourable Vicki O’Halloran AO, Administrator of the Northern Territory.

As Local Government changed from a Shire to a Regional Council, the future of Roper Gulf Regional Council required a new facility that could house all three Divisions of Council under one roof, so as to better support operations in our 13 Communities.

The opening today is a celebration of the culmination of hard work between Council staff and the Northern Territory contractors who completed the renovations.

Mayor Judy MacFarlane stated, “The opening of these Council Chambers has been a fantastic celebration of all the hard work that has been conducted by Council. I look forward to the coming years of continuing to set goals and create new initiatives to work for the people of the Roper Gulf Region”.

While this Support Centre has been in use over a year, the opening today brought together staff from the 185,000 square kilometres Council represents.

Attending guests included Chief Executive Officer of the Victoria Daly Council, as well as representatives of the Northern Territory Government. “It is important to Council to keep working with this Government and other Local Councils to advance the essential services in the Region,” she explained.

The Council Support Centre currently utilises its location to provide administrative and service support to our Community Offices in the Region.

“On behalf of Council and the Roper Gulf Region, I would like to thank everyone for attending this celebration today, it is a pleasure to be here as the Mayor and a long term resident.”
