Nyirranggulung Councillor Helen Lee has become the Roper Gulf Regional Council's new Deputy Mayor having been elected by her fellow Councillors at today’s Ordinary Meeting of Council.

In 2021, the Council resolved to appoint the Deputy Mayor's position for a period of two (2) years. The position was previously held by former Councillor Judy MacFarlane until her resignation in early July 2023 which has coincided with the two (2) year period.

Nominations for the position were received for Councillor Helen Lee and for Councillor Samuel Evans of the South West Gulf Ward, with Councillor Lee successfully being appointed.

Councillor Lee is a strong advocate for the Nyirranggulung Ward, which includes Barunga, Wugularr (Beswick), Manyallaluk (Eva Valley) and Bulman/Weemol communities, and previously held the Deputy Mayor position in 2017-2021.

Mayor Tony Jack and CEO Marc Gardner congratulated Deputy Mayor Lee on her appointment and look forward to working with her in the position for the remainder of the term of Council and until the next general elections in August 2025.
