Councillor David Murrungun Resigns from Council

Councillor David Murrungun of the Numbulwar Numburindi Ward has formally resigned from his position of Councillor on the Roper Gulf Regional Council.

Councillor Murrungun officially notified the Acting Chief Executive Officer of his decision in writing earlier this week, with the resignation effective from Friday 25 March 2022.

Councillor Murrungun became a Councillor on the Roper Gulf Regional Council on 14 September 2017 and has been a strong representative for the Numbulwar Numburindi Ward.

Mayor Tony Jack thanked Councillor Murrungun for his valuable service to the Council and to the people of the Numbulwar Numburindi ward, and of Roper Gulf region as a whole.

Councillor Murrungun also provided Council with a valuable service as a member of its Audit Committee.

“On behalf of the Elected Members, I thank Councillor Murrungun for his dedication and commitment to Council during the past 5 years.

“I personally respect his passion for supporting and advocating for the Numbulwar community and acknowledge the contribution he has made during his time in the role,” Mayor Jack said.

Council’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Marc Gardner also praised Councillor Murrungun’s commitment to Numbulwar and the Council. 

“I was fortunate to work with Councillor Murrungun over 17 years ago when he was also a Councillor with the Numbulwar Numburindi Community Government Council.

“He has been a tireless advocate for community issues and improvements for many years.

“We will miss his community leadership and valued advice, and thank him for his dedication and support for Council’s services over this time,” Mr Gardner said.

A By-Election will take place to fill the vacancy arising out of Councillor Murrungun’s resignation. Further information will be provided in the near future.
