The Official Opening Ceremony of the Rocky Creek Bridge will be held in Borroloola on Wednesday 19 May 2021, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm.
Residents of Borroloola and the surrounding region have enjoyed the benefits of the $6.7m bridge during the past La Niña wet season, following its completion in December 2020.
The project was funded by all three tiers of government as well as the McArthur River Mine Community Benefits Trust, a strategic partnership that reflects the importance of adequate infrastructure to regional economic development, vitality, and resilience.
Mayor Judy MacFarlane said the Rocky Creek Bridge, which is located on Robinson Road in Borroloola, provides vital links between one end of town and the other and is now a safer and more reliable freight link in the wet seasons.
“The Rocky Creek Bridge is a vital piece of infrastructure not only for daily freight movements but also residents in Borroloola and surrounding areas, who rely on this bridge for access daily.
“That is why it is so important that we celebrate the completion of this project with representatives from the funding partners, stakeholders, local businesses and residents of Borroloola,” said Mayor MacFarlane.
The event will be held at the rest area adjacent to the Rocky Creek Bridge on Robinson Road, with speeches from Mayor Judy MacFarlane and elected representatives from each funding partner.
Robinson Road will be closed at the Rocky Creek Bridge to all traffic, from 11:00am to 1:00pm, on Wednesday 19 May 2021, with traffic control in place to ensure the safety of attendees.
The event will conclude with a community BBQ provided by Council staff and all members of the community are encouraged to join Council in celebrating the completion of this long awaited community asset.
