To our Communities, our Stakeholders and our Staff,

I would like to thank you for your considerable efforts throughout 2020 to get Roper Gulf Regional Council into the position we are in today.

Without doubt, 2020 has been incredibly challenging with the COVID-19 pandemic affecting our Council and communities to the core and changes to our operations throughout the year.

However, through great adversity, we have emerged stronger; we are united, more efficient, we value working as a team and ready for the opportunities that await us in 2021 and beyond.

I would like to acknowledge the incredible effort that each staff member has contributed towards us reaching the end of the year and when you look across the Council area, all your incredible achievements to place us in high regard. I would also like to acknowledge each of you who have banded together and stepped up for the Council, those that have worked above and beyond, you know who you are, and you receive my utmost praise and gratitude.

Our Council’s Mission is, as it always has been, to work as one towards a better future through effective use of all resources. This year, the support shown to our Council from stakeholders and community members played a pivotal role in what we could achieve. From playgrounds to new roads and bridges, we actually achieved quite a lot at the same time as providing high levels of servicing including waste management, aged care and employment programs.

Through cooperation with local organisations and integrated initiatives, we were also able to overcome the unique challenges of 2020 and continue to provide services to our region. For this assistance and collaboration, I would like to express my sincere appreciation.

Looking ahead…

Without doubt 2021 will be a massive year and one where we can build upon the momentum we have created, particularly in the latter half of 2020.

An exciting time awaits, we have a range of community projects such as a new cyclone shelter at Borroloola that will come to fruition during the year. We will also have Council elections in August, as well as launching the ‘Roper Gulf 2025’ project of developing our strategic plan. The strategic plan will create greater opportunities for us to achieve better services and develop better facilities for our communities.

In closing out the year, I would like wish every one of you a safe and happy Christmas, a restful holiday if you’re having one, enjoy spending time with family and friends, and I look forward to Council’s positive journey continuing in 2021 and beyond. All my best wishes for the festive season.
