Roads

Road conditions in the Roper Gulf region can change rapidly depending on the time of year you are travelling. In the wet season (from October to May), heavy rainfall can cause roads to flood or become damaged.

And remember: if it's flooded, forget it!

Planning ahead is crucial when driving in the Roper Gulf region. Before you start driving, make sure you:

  • Check the vehicle is well maintained and ready for the journey 
  • Plan your trip and know the road conditions
  • Tell someone where you are going 
  • Make sure you have plenty of water and food
