Roper Gulf Regional Council has been closely monitoring the recent advice from the Northern Territory Government (NTG) and Secure NT regarding the state’s positive COVID-19 cases and the lockdown in the Greater Darwin Area.

Today, NT Chief Minister Michael Gunner announced the lockdown period for Darwin, Palmerston and Darwin rural areas will be extended to Friday 02 July 2021 at 1:00pm.

Council is awaiting further information about the Katherine and Roper Gulf region from Northern Territory Government and will promote this information when it is known.

Now more than ever, it is crucial that people use the Territory Check-In app or Sign-In sheet when visiting or travelling within the Roper Gulf region.

This includes residents, tradespeople, contractors, business owners and staff, stakeholders and tourists. With the large influx of tourists in the region, this is an essential part of contact tracing that can help to keep our communities safe if the case numbers continue to increase and staff and business owners are asked to be vigilant with the Check-In process for customers and visitors. Please avoid non-essential travel within the Northern Territory and Roper Gulf region.

If you are travelling in and out of community for essential reasons, it is recommended that you call ahead and make sure your arrival is expected by the community – this includes Council staff, contractors and stakeholders.

If you have recently visited Darwin, please monitor for any COVID-19 symptoms and get tested if you have any of the symptoms or are unsure or concerned.

Please do not travel to communities if you have recently visited the Greater Darwin Area.

If you are feeling unwell, stay home from work.

If you develop COVID-19 symptoms, please get tested and isolate until test results come back or until advised by health officials.

Stay Safe, Stay on Country and Care for Family.
