Roper Gulf Regional Council has been closely monitoring the recent advice from the Northern Territory Government (NTG) and Secure NT regarding the state’s positive COVID-19 case and the 72-hour lockdown in place for the Greater Darwin and Katherine regions.
The Chief Minister announced yesterday that the lockdown period will be from 12:00pm Monday 16 August until 12:00pm Thursday 19 August for contact tracing to occur.
As yet, no instructions have been made for the Roper Gulf region aside from advice not to travel to the Katherine or Darwin region unless it is for one of the five essential reasons listed here.
The Roper Gulf region is currently a Green Zone, therefore all Roper Gulf Regional Council Service Delivery Centres in community will operate as usual and services will remain unaffected.
Members of the Roper Gulf region are reminded to stay in your community, as this is the safest place for you to be while contact tracing occurs.
All staff who are based at our Katherine Support Centre will work from home during the lockdown period and will not travel to community.
Katherine-based staff can still be contacted via email or mobile.
Council’s phone number (08) 8972 9000 is still operational if you have any general enquiries.
Northern Land Council (NLC) has suspended all travel permits to enter and remain on Aboriginal Land in the NLC region until further notice.
If you require further information on this, please visit Northern Land Council’s website.
The NT Electoral Commission also announced that mobile voting across the Northern Territory for the Local Government Election has been suspended until the lockdown ends.
This includes voting in Mulggan, Mataranka, Minyerri, Binjari, Werenbun, Manyallaluk, Ngukurr and Urapunga that was scheduled this week.
More information about mobile voting for the 2021 Local Government Election can be found on the NT Electoral Commission’s website.
More information about the current COVID-19 situation can be found here.
Lastly, Council hereby recognises the efforts of, and thanks the members of the Northern Territory Police, emergency services, and all other persons who are involved in managing this situation.
