Roper Gulf Mayor, Judy Macfarlane, welcomed Ms Kennedy to the role and thanked the other six candidates for nominating for the position.

“We’re pleased to have filled the role and are looking forward to working with Deanna in her capacity as a Councillor,” she said.

“I would also like to thank the other candidates for putting their hands up to represent their communities at the local government level, and we hope to see them continuing to engage with Council on community issues into the future.”

The Councillor position was previously held by Barunga resident Wayne Runyu, who resigned from the role earlier this year.

Ms Kennedy will be sworn in at the next Ordinary Council Meeting in Katherine on October 31.
